According to ancient mythology, a young Brahmin dived into the Vembanad Lake to take bath and perform his evening prayers and the land rose above diverting the lake,and the entralling island of Pathiramanal (sands of midnight) was created. Apart from the gorgeous lake shore of the Vembanadu Lake Pathiramanal is the main tourist spot in muhamma. Pathiramanal lies within the Vembanadu Lake. This eco friendly small island on the backwaters is a favourite place for many rare migratory birds from totally different places on the globe. It lies between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom, and is accessible solely by boat from Alappuzha. This exquisite piece of land is simply a couple of kilometres off Alappuzha.
