Snake Park at Parassinikkadavu
The Snake Park at Parassinikkadavu is situated 18 kms from Kannur town.This small village lying at a distance from the Kannur town is a popular tourist destination, known for its Muthappan Temple also along with the Snake Park. The District Tourism Promotion Council has arranged boating facilities at the river here.
It is one of the well- known snake parks in the country. The park is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of snakes, most of which are becoming extinct gradually. There is a large collection of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes such as the Spectacled Cobra, King Cobra, Russell's viper, Krait and various pit vipers and Pythons. Live show is conducted here which educates people against the superstitions about snakes and also help to quell the mystical fears. The snake park is under the authority of Visha chikitsa Kendra that offers effective treatment against the snake bite.Lecture demonstrations are conducted at the park by trained personnel to disseminate information about snakes and to create awareness that will help fight superstitions regarding these reptiles.
